Hello Guitar;
Those who were in particular a very interesting information, particularly as to buy your telescope at Wal-Mart, Costco, etc..
Buying a telescope dealer reputation.
Personally, I suggest you go to:
http://www.telescope.com
This is the Orion telescope website. You will find a variety of different telescopes model in a wide range of prices.
I would also say, and that's important ... No matter how good your vision of the night sky is in your deck ... Set your telescope to see!
(The vibration of footsteps and even the passage of vehicles on the road) are slightly (and by) the telescope so that it conferred a poster session unpleasant.
Set your telescope (which is decided to avoid a purchase) on the ground and try to look over the rooftops when it's cold where you are.
The loss of heat from adjacent buildings and houses, the thermal disturbance (light) in his field of vision and can clearly see thrCh that either!
Take your opportunities in the country of strange lights, buildings and trees. His vision is much higher!
Clear Skies!

I agree that a Newton is on a Dobsonian mount the best buy in telescopes for beginners.
The cover is not a good place to install it for two reasons: all the bridges have vibration problems, not noticeable in everyday situations, but enough to operate a telescope with an increase of 200x or more to completely unusable. Secondly, it can be near your house, severe heat, destroying the atmospheric stability. Telescopes work best when they are placed on the lawn outside the building.
The only place to buy a telescope, is a business that specializes in telescopes and astronomy. There are shops and in many communities, otherwise you can buy from an established online retailers such as Orion, Astronomics, etc.
Dobsons My favorites are sold by Orion and Celestron. Current Meade Dobson are all models of the tube frame that add an unnecessary complication in the assembly and collimation - not recommended.
I went with a Meade. I Reflector $ 350 It has a focal length of 1000 mm. Its great. But I really have checked with Meade some great deals.
To telescopes.com and check-out. The best deals from all major brands. Do not go to that Wal-Mart to sell domains trash!
It is not stated on the cover, not stable enough, every time you move the scope too! For a beginner, the power of a Meade EXT should

Please do not go to Wal-Mart to buy a telescope. Search:

meade.com
celestron.com
The Dobsonian is a good choice, and I recommend you have the money to buy a greater openness and better optics instead of a computer with a GoTo.

marks the best telescopes Celestron, Meade and Orion. All three have very good optical and the prices are reasonable (under $ 400 - $ 700 range to buy) for a 10 "baby. As for where that you can on the website of the manufacturer and click on your" where to buy " Links to walk, but shop around. Celestron10 A "F5 can $ 600 in one place and $ 900 elsewhere. In addition, you should be able to have a look decent years. A 25mm-40mm, low-power 17mm-22mm for a medium power, and 4mm-13mm high performance. These can be very expensive if you upscale (I suggest that you, your telescope will probably be replaced, but your eyes will be) a lifetime.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
Before spending much money, I suggest:
Received 1), a pair of 10x50 "astronomical binoculars and a tripod for it, and then cover their a few times. This can be done for under $ 200.
2) to a party of "Star" with an astronomy club and look through other telescopes.
The reason for these proposals is that many people, a telescope for the first time without the slightest idea what to expect, they are disappointed, and be with your telescope a few times. Then the telescope can be sold on eBay or elsewhere on the Internet at an excellent price.
Wal-Mart has a good selection
